A Muskogee man died in a crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike while driving to work in Tulsa. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported the incident occurred at 5:45 AM on April 8, 2025, approximately 10 miles west of Muskogee.
The victim was James Carter, 34, a welder from Muskogee. OHP said Carter was driving westbound in a 2018 Ford F-150 when the vehicle left the road, hit a guardrail, and rolled into a ditch. \\
He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The OHP is investigating, with speed listed as a possible factor.
Weather was clear, and the road was dry.
The Will Rogers Turnpike has had 14 fatalities in 2024, per OHP data. This crash is the second fatal accident on this stretch in 2025. The OHP plans to review safety conditions on the turnpike following the incident.
Carter leaves behind a wife and two children. A GoFundMe has been created to help with funeral costs.
