Authorities in Le Flore County as well as investigators with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations continue to answers after the remains of an unidentified male fetus were discovered in a trash container at a local sewer plant on August 17, 2023.
.
The remains, measuring approximately 7 inches in length, were found in a state of advanced decomposition, making visual identification impossible. Investigators confirmed that all body parts were recovered, but due to the condition of the remains, details such as hair and eye color could not be determined.
The race and ethnicity of the infant also remain unknown.
The discovery was made on tribal land, raising jurisdictional complexities and prompting collaboration between local law enforcement, tribal authorities, and the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The fetus was found inside a trash container at the sewer facility, though it remains unclear whether the container was publicly accessible or located within a restricted area of the plant.
As of now, no missing persons have been officially excluded as potential matches, and DNA analysis is likely underway to aid in identification. The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office continues to encourage anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could help bring closure to this case.
