Nineteen-year-old impaired driver strikes and kills four-year-old on US Highway 270 in rural Leflore County

Law enforcement officials in Leflore County said a 18-year-old drunk driven caused the ofdeath of a 4-year-old child in an accident that occurred mid-afternoon Sunday in a rural part of the county. 


According to a report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol the unidentified 4-year-old was in a yard adjacent to US Highway 270 between Wister and Heavener when a minivan driven by Miguel Reyes of Heavener let the roadway and struck the child. 


According to the OHP report, the accident occurred about four miles south of Wister near the intersection with 250th Avenue. 


Reyes was taken into custody by law enforcement officials and transported to the floor County jail in Poteau.


The dispatcher for OHP Troop D, headquartered in McAlester, refused to release any information or even confirm an accident had occurred at that time.
