Name of victim in Grand Avenue pedestrian fatality from last week released


The Arkansas State Police has released he name of a man who was struck by a motorcycle last Thursday on Grand Avenue and died at a local hospital on Friday.


Jonathan James Slaughter, 34, of Fort Smith was attempting to cross the street in the vicinity of the Dollar General store in the 1700 block of the street just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As he was crossing the road in a southernly direction he was stuck by a westbound 2004 Honda VTX.

Slaughter was taken to an area hospital after the accident and passed due to to his injuries on Friday.


Police say the motorcyclist, 43-year-old Marshawn Jenkins, was also injured and transported to a local medical facility.

At the time of the accident, the death of Slaughter represented the 76th Arkansas roadway fatality of the year.
