Mulberry man walking in traffic lane on Interstate 40 killed Thursday near Mile Marker 23

A 65-year-old pedestrian was killed and two other people were injured in a fatal accident that occurred Thursday morning near mile marker 23 on I-40 westbound in Crawford County.


According to information from the Arkansas State Police 65-year-old Robert Dale Ward of mulberry was a pedestrian on the interstate and was walking in the right lane at approximately 6:13 am. A 2020 Hyundai driven by 24-year-old Donovan Scott Shepherd of Charleston apparently struck Ward causing fatal injurie


Ward was declared dead at the scene and Hood, as well as passenger 35-year-old Jonathan Michael Hood also of Charleston, were both injured but the report does not detail if they were transported to local medical facility.


Trooper Rafaela Guerra worked the accident for the Arkansas State Police and noted weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.


Ward's death was the 541st of the year in 490 accidents involving fatalities on Arkansas roads and highways.
