Motorcyle-truck crash Saturday night results in death of Fort Smith man


On a weekend end in which thousands of motorcyle enthusiasts took over Fort Smith for the Steelhorse Rally, one local man lost his life as the result of an accident in which the Harley he was driving struck by a pick-up truck on Rogers Avenue.


The Fort Smith police and Arkansas State Police say 63-year-old William Joseph Hanson was eastbound on Rogers Avenue when a 2017 Dodge Ram exited the Chik-Fil-A parking lot at 6810 Rogers Avenue at just after 9:30 p.m. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the pick-up truck.


Hanson was taken to Mercy Hosptal lees than a hundred yards away but died of his injuries.


The accident caused the local police to barracade a three block stretch of the high traffic street for the better part of an hour while working the accident.


Officer Maie Malone not6ed the conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.
