Motorcycle-car crash Friday afternoon on US Highway 71 in Scott County claims 50-year-old Mena man

The Arkansas State Police says a 50-year-old Mena motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon on US Highway 71 near Needmore when he crashed into the driver's side of a passenger car shortly after 5 p.m.

The preliminary report issued by the ASP says Rodney Joe Emry was northbound on US Highway 71 when a 2018 Toyota Corolla driven by 23-year-old Danielle Slater was attempting a left turn into a private driveway. Emry attempted to pass on the left but ran into the driver's side of the car.

The motorcycle came to rest on the west side of the roadway with the Corolla facing south on the east side of the road.

Slater was transported to Mercy Hospital-Waldron for treatment of unknown injuries.

Trooper Mike Lance noted clear weather and road conditions at the time of the impact.
