A preliminary narrative report posted by the Arkansas State Police on Saturday morning identified the Fort Smith man killed Friday in a collision involving a moped and a Dodge Ram pick-up on Grand Avenue.
Police say 25-year-old Leodegario Levon Gonzalez was turning westbound on North 33rd Street from the turn lane on Grand when the Dodge attempted the same turn. Gonazlez then moved back into the center lane and was struck by the truck. According to the police report the moped was traveling at "a high rate of speed".
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sebastian County Coroner's office.
The fatality was the 152nd in the state to date for the year compared to 168 fir the same time period in 2021.
