Monday night crash east of Pea Ridge causes death of Springdale woman

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

The Arkansas State Police says a Springdale woman is dead and two other people were injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Monday night in rural Benton County.

Police say the wreck happened just after 9:30 pm on Monday on a stretch of State Highway 72 east of Pea Ridge near Miser Road. Forty-six Michael Datello was driving a 2005 Mazda 6 westbound on Highway 72 east of Pea Ridge when he crossed the road and ran off the left side of the highway.

The Mazda hit a fence and struck a culvert, causing it to go airborne. The impact with the ground caused the vehicle to spin and roll clockwise until it came to rest on all four tires facing north in the south ditch.

A forty-one year-old female passenger, Cheryl Vicnair of Springdale, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, 40-year -old David Crow, also of Springdale, and Dattello were both taken to the Northwest Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

ASP trooper Zenda Staab noted conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the accident, which is one of 245 for the year that has claimed 275 lives to date.
