Monday accident on rural road in Jonson County claims Altus man

An Altus man was killed and his passenger taken to UAMS Hospital after a one vehicle accident Monday in rural Johnson County.


The Arkansas Sate Police says Clifton Brockett, 38, of Altus died when the Chevrolet 1500 pick-up he was driving veered off he roadway when he was attempting to take a left hand curve and overturned.


Both men were trapped in the overturned vehicle and emergency personnel had to do an extraction.


Clifton Brockett was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 45-year-old Michael Brockett of Ozark, was taken to UAMS in unknown condition.


The accident occurred at 8:23 Monday night on Country Road 3198 and weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.


Two-hundred eighty-one people have died on Arkansas roadways this year.
