Missouri fraud investigation turns into pursuit and arrest of Arkansas 25-year miscreant

An Arkansas woman has been charged after a fraud investigation turns into a chase.

According to online court records, 41-year-old Jessica Dawn Cherry is charged with resisting arrest by fleeing.

According to a probable cause statement from the Nixa Police Department, on Thursday around 1 p.m., officers were sent to a Blu Current Credit Union in Nixa for a fraud call in progress.

Bank employees told police Cherry was in a gray van in the drive-through and was using a stolen ID to cash a check for $3,695. Investigators found the ID, debit card, and check used by Cherry were stolen from a variety of theft cases in Springfield.

When Nixa officers went to talk with Cherry, she started reversing out of the drive-through and then started going forward nearly hitting an officer and driving away. Authorities chased Cherry on Mount Vernon Street towards Ozark at high speeds.

When authorities arrested Cherry, she had IDs of other people from Florida and other property that was taken due to the possibility it was from another crime. Authorities also found a trace of powder in her wallet that tested positive for heroin. She was not charged since it was such a small amount, according to investigators.

A search of online sources show that Cherry has a long and distinctive criminal history out of the state of Arkansas dating all the way back to 1999.

Most of her criminal proceedings have been in and around Batesville and/or Faulkner and Independence counties. She racked up over tenty misdemeanor traffic violations from 1999 through 2008, and her first docketed crimes in the state that didn't involve vehicular infractions was a 2009 arrest for theft by receiving and criminal trespass in Faulkner County.

Her inability to maintain a valid driver's license and liability insurance, along for infractions for failure to use child restraints, make up the bulk of her misdemeanor arrests over the years.

Arrests in the ensuing years had involved theft of property charges as well as a 2020 arrest for Possessing a Controlled Substance Meth or Cocaine.

Cherry is being held in the Christian County Jail on a $25,000.00 bond.
