Man with local ties faces felony child sex crime counts after arrest in Hickory, North Carolina


An Arkansas man who has lived in several communities in Arkansas and Oklahoma is facing felony child-sex crimes in Catawba County, North Carolin a after an arrest earlier this month by police in the tourist town of Hickory, North Carolina.


According to information obtained from the Catawba District Court, 49-year-old Cannon Earl Kress remains behind bars on a $700,000 bond. His initial bond was $350,00 but an additional $350,000 was added to his bail amount after more charges were added out of Watauga County;


Kress was arrested November 2 and charged with multiple counts of felony third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, multiple counts of felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and solicitation by computer. The Watauga County charges are three counts of felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.


Today in Fort Smith reached out to court officials in North Carolina for more details, but much of the information in the arrest warrant has been sealed by the court because of the age of the victim(s).


Officials in North Carolina said Wednesday the investigation remains open and ongoing.


According to online information, Kress has been previously linked to addresses in Van Buren, , Fort Smith, Poteau, Muldrow, Pocola, Moffett, and Cameron.


His next North Carolina court appearance has been set for December 13 in Catawaba County and the following day in Watauga County.
