A Huntsville man faces serious charges, including second-degree murder, after a shooting incident on Thursday, April 17, left one person dead, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Corey James Podoll, 35, was arrested at 6:27 p.m. following reports of a shooting at 263 Madison County Road 8965.

Deputies responded to the scene around 4:10 p.m. after receiving calls about gunfire. Witnesses identified Podoll as the shooter, stating he was armed and had fired at an individual, resulting in the victim’s death.

Security footage from a nearby residence corroborated witness accounts, showing Podoll discharging a firearm. Deputies located Podoll near the scene, where he was detained. He appeared to be under the influence, leading to an additional charge of public intoxication. Authorities also discovered Podoll was in possession of a defaced firearm, adding to his charges.

Podoll was booked into the Madison County Holding Facility on charges of second-degree murder, possession of a defaced firearm, and public intoxication. He was released the following morning, April 18, at 10:28 a.m., as the investigation continues.

The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. No additional injuries were reported in the incident.

Podoll has a very limited criminal record, at least when Arkansas Court Connect is concerned. His only previous case listed on the site was an order pof protection obtained against him by a female plaintiff back in 2010.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
