Longtime educator Dr. Shawn Hinkle named principal of Kimmons Middle School



Dr. Shawn Hinkle has been selected as the Principal of Kimmons Middle School. He has served in the Fort Smith Public Schools for 22 years, and is a graduate of the district, attending Sutton, Kimmons and Northside High School.
Dr. Hinkle has served as assistant principal of Darby Middle School since 2016. With this new assignment, he will be the instructional leader of Kimmons, guiding the educational experience for Kimmons students and overseeing daily operations.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the students and staff of Kimmons Middle School as their next principal. Thank you to the Darby Ranger family for allowing me to grow, learn and lead as an Administrator,” said Dr. Hinkle.
“The Fort Smith Public School District is fortunate to have Dr. Shawn Hinkle assume the position of principal for Kimmons Middle School. With the hiring of Dr. Hinkle, Kimmons will continue having a strong leader and educator who will always do what is in the best interest of the students and staff. Kimmons Middle School is a dream job for Dr. Hinkle, as many of the Kimmons alumni and current students will be excited about the hiring of such a great man and leader,” said Dr. Tony Jones, Director of Secondary Education, Fort Smith Public Schools.
Prior to his role as Darby Assistant Principal, Dr. Hinkle served as math department chair, geometry teacher, head basketball coach, and algebra teacher at Kimmons, and algebra teacher at Darby.
He holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, a Masters of Educational Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Math Education, all from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas.
Dr. Hinkle is a member of Leadership Fort Smith Class of 2022 and is on the Board of Directors at St. James Missionary Baptist Church.
