Leflore County teams see inclement weather delay in postseason basketball action

Hundreds of games that have been played since November in gymnasiums throughout Leflore County will all culminate in post-season play for a number of area teams next week, and while some teams have already had their first round of District action, others will have to wait until the start of next week to start their quests towards state tournament play.

Class A and B teams were able to get their District Tournaments done last Friday and Saturday, but the remainder of the squads throughout the county saw their initial games in postseason pushed back to the start of next week due to the winter storm of 2021.

The Pocola Indians and Lady Indians are set to host Holbert in first round action in their Class 2a District on Tuesday at the Indian gymnasium in Pocola. The Pocola teams will have been on a 14-day hiatus as of Tuesday, with their last games having been played on February 9. The girls beat Heavener 47-40 and the boys lost to the Wolves 31-30 on the road in those contests.

Games for Pocola with Spiro and Vian were cancelled last week.

Heavener's teams, which play in Class 3A, will take on teams from Idabel at home on Monday, while 2A Howe will play host to Gore in Tuesday night action in District action.

All games for Pocola, Heavener and Howe will be broadcast live on Today in Fort Smith.

Panama draws Central Sallisaw and will play their District games at home on Tuesday.

Spiro will play host to Vian while Class 4A Poteau will entertain Hulbert in District play on Tuesday.

In the Class A and B ranks, Arkoma, Leflore and Whitesboro all managed to get both teams through to Area play, while the Talihina boys and Wister girls also advanced to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Arkoma travels to North Rock Creek on Tuesdaay ad will take on Wayne in a pair of contests, while Whitesboro faces the Moyer girls and Buffalo Valley boys at Stringtown. Leflore and Cameron's boys and girls will both be in action against each other at McCurtain.

The Talihina Golden Tigers and Wister Lady Wildcats play at North Rock Creek on Tuesday against the respective teams from Hydro-Eakly.
