"Inattentive driver" responsible for death of longtime Delaware County resident on July 4

A day after being hit by an "inattentive driver" in a two-vehicle collision on July 4 in Delaware County, an Oklahoma has passed away from his injuries.

William Arthur Rainier, 92, of Jay was parked in the ditch on the south side of E 330 Road with his Kubota Tractor when a vehicle traveling eastward struck the tractor that was partially in the roadway, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

William Adams, 83, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, was operating the second car, and it spun momentarily after the collision before stopping in the middle of the road. Adams escaped the encounter unscathed. Police said the collision was due to Adam's inattention to driving conditions.

Rainier's head, trunk, limbs, and legs sustained severe injuries. After being transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin and then Cox South Hospital in Springfield, he was first taken to Grove Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
