Huntsville man hit with 96-month prison sentence for multiple drug charges

A 55-year-old Huntsville man who was sentenced earlier this month as a habitual criminal was transferred to the Arkansas Department of Corrections this week to serve 96 months for drug-related charges from 2023.

According to information from Arkansas Court Connect and booking information from the Madison County Sheriff's office, James Lee Sheets took a plea deal on July 11th of this year on three charges - possession of a controlled substance meth / cocaine/heroin with purpose to deliver, possession of controlled substance ( excluding meth or cocaine), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Because of previous arrest for similar charges, including one while he was out on bail awaiting trial for a December 2022 arrest, Sheets was sentenced under extenuating circumstances.

It also appears he was arrested in 2019 for possession of controlled substances meth/ cocaine but in that case he was given a suspended imposition of sentence and served only local jail time.

The lack of prison time for the 2019 conviction is a little confusing as Sheets had previously served time in the ADC for convictions in 2006, 2010, and 2011.

According to booking information from Madison County, Sheets was transferred to the Arkansas Department of Corrections on July 23rd.
