On Mondy Alton Scott Moody, a 61-year-old resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas, was sentenced to 144 month--12 years--in federal prison for possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
The sentencing hearing, presided over by Chief Judge Susan O. Hickey, took place in the United States District Court in Hot Springs.
Following his prison term, Moody will be subject to additional supervised release, though the specific duration was not detailed in the announcement.
The case stems from an incident on April 24, 2023, when Hot Springs Police Department officers conducted a routine traffic stop. Recognizing Moody as an individual under active felony parole supervision through the Arkansas Department of Correction, officers searched him and discovered 242.8 grams of pure methamphetamine in his possession.
This substantial quantity--far exceeding the 50-gram threshold for the charge--underscored the severity of the offense.
Moody entered a guilty plea on July 8, 2024, admitting to the charge of Possession of More Than 50 Grams of a Mixture or Substance Containing a Detectable Amount of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute.
The plea marked the culmination of an investigation led by the 18th East Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations’ Little Rock Field Office.
United States Attorney David Clay Fowlkes announced the sentencing, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in combating drug trafficking in the Western District of Arkansas. Assistant United States Attorney Bryan Achorn prosecuted the case, securing Moody’s conviction and sentence.
