Home invader shot and killed in Fort Smith; source says man forced way into another home earlier

A fatal shooting Friday morning in the 800 block of North 18th Street just off of Grand Avenue when a homeowner shot and killed a 29-year-old male who broke into his residence armed with a knife.

Police responded to the home on Friday morning and discovered the body of the deceased male with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

The homeowner told police that the man broke into his house and was armed with a knife. He also told police that he shot the man.

The 58-year-old homeowner was taken to a local hospital to be checked for non life-threatening injuries.

Today in Fort Smith has learned that the dead suspect may have also been responsible for another attempted break-in and attack on North 14th Street earlier in the morning.

According to a source, a man described as a white male with facial hair, forced his way into the home on North 14th Street and struck a resident of that house in the face. The homeowner was able to force the suspect back out of his house.

The shooting occurred approximately four blocks east of the home on North 14th on the same side of Grand Avenue shortly after the first incident. Today in Fort Smith reached out to the Fort Smith Police Department but those inquiries were not replied to before this story was written. We were given the name of the shooting victim by a source, but will be wotholdoing that information pending notification of next of kin and an official press release from the FSPD.
