Habitual offender that violated parole in 2022 sent back to prison with new ten-year sentence

A Fort Smith man with more than a dozen felony convictions on his record over the past 20 years was sentenced to ten years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections in court proceedings in Sebastian County Circuit Court last week.

Robert Lee jones, who had been sentenced to ten years in prison on drug charges back in 2018, apparently didn't stay out of jail too long as he was arrested again April 6, 2022 and charged with several drug related charges.

Jones was arrested by the Fort Smith Police Department on three counts of possession of meth/cocaine with purpose to deliver, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and a parole violation. That arrest also triggered a petition to revoke from his previous status as a parolee.

According to information supplied by Arkansas Court connect and Sebastian County Circuit Court, the 50-year-old Jones appeared in court with his attorney on Wednesday and the state announced they would only be prosecuting one count of the possession with intent to deliver charges. The state also added a four-year habitual offender enhancement to his sentencing and withdrew the petition to revoke.

Jones pled guilty as charged and was sentenced to ten years in the ADC with an additional 20 years suspended.

Records dating back to 1993 shows that Jones has been arrested numerous times for similar offenses involving drugs and related issues.
