Habitual offender tag sends Fort Smith felon to prison with four year sentence
In another case in which a repeat offender would not have received any prison time except for a Habitual Offender designation, a Fort Smith man worked a plea deal into a four-year sentence for charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Meth/Fentanyl on Thiursday.
Charoles Frederick Carter, 61, who had served prison time in the late 90's for various other drug charges, had two open cases for possession of paraphernalia and plead guilty in open court on Thursday.
He received four years imposed and six years suspended imposition of senetence on both cases to run concurrently in the Thursday proceedings, according to court information.
In addition to the 1996 conviction, Carter had received an 18-month sentence in 1994 afer receiving a 60 month imposed sentence in 1993 for paraphernalia and Criminal Conspiracy.
Carter remains in the custody of the SCDC awaiting trasfer to the Arkansas DSepartment of Corrections.
