Greenwood motorcyclist dies after Wednesday hit-and-run on US Highway 71 South

The Arkansas State Police say a Greenwood man was was killed and his female passenger was injured in a hit-and-run south of Fort Smith on US Highway 71 Wednesday night,

The accident involved an unknown vehicle striking a motorcyclist on the highway near Gate Nine Cutoff Road in south Sebastian County at around 10 p.m. Wednesday,

Police say 51-year-old John K. Hayes was driving a Honda VT2 along the roadway when he lost control of the bike. Hayes was lying in the road when a southbound vehicle ran over him then fled the scene of the accident.

Thirty-seven year-old Kristina Strozier of Fort Smith suffered injuries in the accident and she and Hayes were both transported to Mercy Hospital Fort Smith where Hayes was later pronounced dead.

Accirding to ingvestigating trooped Caleb Pevehouse the conditions at the time of the accident were clear and withn a dry roadway.
