Fugitive from justice out of Oregon arrested Monday by Johnson County Sheriff Office personnel

On Monday, Johnson County officials arrested a man in the area of Piney on State Highway 359 in rural Johnson County who was wanted out of Oregon on several felony counts.

Todd Richard Fredricks, 54, is a former resident of Douglas County, Oregon and was wanted on warrants out of that state for seven felonies and two misdemeanors dating back to 2017. His booking hometown was listed as London in Johnson County on his Johnson County arrest record.

Sheriff Jimmy Stephens and a team of deputies, who had developed information that Fredricks was living under an assumed identity in the Piney area off SH 359, captured the fugitive shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Monday.

Deputies were able to establish reconnaissance of the location and the suspect was visually identified.

An arrest team which included Sheriff Stephens, investigators, uniformed deputies and K9 officers closed in on the site and Fredricks, who was reported to be armed, attempted to flee on foot into a nearby wooded area and was captured after a brief foot chase.

The warrants out of Oregon sought Fredricks for felony Kidnapping in the Second Degree (two counts), Unlawful Use of a Weapon (two counts), Robbery in the First Degree, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Delivery of Methamphetamine. He was also wanted on two misdemeanor counts of Menacing.

Fredricks is currently being held at the Johnson County Jail, pending extradition to Oregon.
