Freightliner topples over; two Springdale women killed Monday

Two women from Springdale were killed and a man from Lincoln was taken to the Siloam Springs hospital when a 2018 Freightliner rolled over on top of a 2013 Honda CRV early Monday morning, according to the Arkansas State Police.

A preliminary ASP reports says 33-year-old Keondrick Banks of Lincoln was driving the tractor-trailer rig northbound on Highway 59 just north of Gentry when the truck began to roll while attempting to negotiate a curve. The rig toppled over on top of the southbound Honda then proceeded to slide.

Forty-five year-old Ana Delia Mejia-Flores and thirty-eight year-old Flor Maribell Recinos-Valle, both of Springdale, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Trooper Zenda Staab reported the roadway was dry and conditions were clear at the time of the accident, which was logged as occurring at 7 am.

The twin deaths pushes the number of Arkansas roadway fatalities to 563 on the year.
