A Fort Smith woman transitioned from county detention center prisoner to Arkansas Department of Corrections assignee in waiting on Wednesday after a plea deal in Sebastian County Circuit Court on charges related to domestic battery and failure to appear.
Shawna M. Roberts, 29, saw her felony Second degree Domestic Battery charge amended to a Class A misdemeanor count of Domestic Battery in the Third Degree - Recklessly in a plea deal which earned her one year in prison with nine years suspended.
He also got her a symbolic year in the county jail her on felony failure to appear charge, as both sentences were set to run concurrently.
Roberts was arrested in August of last year on the battery charge and was picked up on May 28 of this year after missing a court date.
In addition to her prison stay, Roberts will be required to pay the court $60 per month towards fines and fees starting 90 days after her release and she is to have no contact with her victim except as authorized by the Department of Human Resources or Family Court.
