Fort Smith Police: Sixty year-old Fort Smith resident struck and killed in pedestrian-vehicle crash

A sixty-year-old Fort Smith man was killed Monday night at 7:18 p.m. at the intersection of Kinkead and Melrose according to a preliminary report by the Fort Smith Police Department that was posted to the Arkansas State Police website on Tuesday.

Officials say Jose Luis Garcia was crossing the roadway at the intersection when he was struck by an eastbound 2008m Prius traveling along KInkead. The driver told police that due to lights of oncoming drivers he could not see Garcia in the intersection. Garcia was struck in the eastbound lane.

Investigating officer Daniel Vaught noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the accident. which resulted in the 501st fatal roadway accident in the state f0r the year.
