Fort Smith police investigating "gun incident" on middle school campus Monday night

The Fort Smith Police department is still on the search for a male juvenile suspect who had a handgun and made a physical threat somewhere on the Fort Smith Kimmons Middle School campus on Monday.

According to a press release from FSPD public information officer Aric Mitchell, two male individuals were threatened by the suspect, who then fled the scene and has yet to be apprehended. The incident apparently happened while there was an athletic event going on at the school.

School officials canceled the rest of the event and all of the attendees were released shortly after 8:00 p.m. once police had cleared the scene and were assured the suspect was nowhere in the area.

Mitchell said the juvenile suspect is known to the police, and that more information would be released when it was appropriate.
