FSPD press release
The Fort Smith Police Department will undergo an onsite CALEA assessment related to our Communications Center from July 22-24, 2024. A representative of CALEA will be at the police department during this time.
The representative will spend time observing day-to-day operations and interviewing personnel within the unit. Our assessor will also speak with members of Command Staff to better understand how we determine the future direction of our Communications Unit and how the unit operates to best serve the community.
This onsite assessment is part of CALEA’s model to ensure that we adhere to current best practices. Every year the Fort Smith Police Department proves continued compliance with CALEA through web-based monitoring.
Every fourth year, the agency is up for reaccreditation and welcomes members of CALEA into our department to show them what we do, rather than them just seeing documents.
Upon successful completion of this onsite assessment, members of the department will meet with CALEA Commissioners in November where they will decide the status of our reaccreditation.
If you have questions or comments that are related strictly to CALEA or our accreditation, a link to the CALEA Comment Portal can be found on the FSPD website or by clicking the hyperlink.
This portal is for CALEA topics only and all other department inquiries should be directed to the appropriate department personnel.
