Fort Smith bandit going away for a long time for convenience store robbery

A Fort Smith man who was one of three arrested in the February 11 armed robbery of the Jenny Lind One Stop in Fort Smith and the theft of more than $1200 in electronics from the Walmart at 8301 Rogers Avenue was sentenced to 52 years in prison with sentences set to run concurrently that should keep him in jail for the better part of the next decade.

Leon Daniel Russell, 33, received 20 years for Aggravated Robbery, and Theft of Property, as well as additional time for Theft by Receiving, Parole Violation and Absconding in a plea agree,ment that was ajudicated on Wednesday of last week He also received 20 years of suspended imposition.

Russell was located in the 500 Block of North K Street on February 17 and arrested without incident and transported to the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center. He has been in jail since that date and was given credit for time served in open court on Wednesday.,

Two accompiices in the heist of the Walmart property, Shawn Hill and Darrel Miller, had been arrested five days earlier. Miller remains jailed on $105,000 in bonds and Hill has yet to raise the $50,000 bail he needs as both men await trial.
