Mindy McBrien, a 50-year-old former nurse from Fairland, has been sentenced to four years in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident.

McBrien received a five-year suspended sentence on the more serious charge of first-degree manslaughter. in action Tuesday in Ottawa County District Court.

The crash resulted in the death of Guang Xin Ye, a Chinese national. Under Oklahoma law, individuals convicted of murder or assault-related crimes must serve at least 85% of their sentences before they are eligible for parole.

However, leaving the scene of an accident does not fall under the 85% rule, as confirmed by prosecutor Kathy Lahmeyer.

During her sentencing in Ottawa County District Court, McBrien tearfully addressed a crowd of supporters, expressing deep remorse for her actions.

"If I could trade places with Mr. Ye, I would," she said, visibly emotional. "I want to apologize to Mr. Ye. I am sorry for the family's loss and will have to live with that for the rest of my life. I hope his family can forgive me."

McBrien also issued an apology to the community, acknowledging the impact of her actions on Ottawa County residents.
