Former NWA educator on registered sex offender list arrested for being on school campus



A Washington County registered sex offender who violated the conditions of his registration by going onto a local school campus last month was released from jail on a $3500 bond on Thursday following his arrest the previous day.


According to booking information from the Washington County Sheriff Office, 49-year-old Mark Oesterle, who lives in the 1100 block of Excaliber Drive in Springdale. was booked into the WCADC just before 8 p.m on Wednesday and was released from custody approximately 11 hours later after posting the bond.


Osterle, a former educator at schools in Springdale and Fayetteville, was convicted in 2021 of 2018 sexual assaults on three victims, fined, placed on probation and ordered to register with the state as a sex offender. He avoided jail time in that case, but his visits to a Springdale junior high and high school in February triggered an investigation that resulted in his arrest this week.


Osterle is accused of groping one individual on the Central Junior High School campus on 8th grade Parent’s Night The second incident occurred February 12 at Har-Ber High School when a teacher unaware of Oesterle’s sex offender status, allowed him to escort a student to a testing room. The teacher claimed Osterle initiated "unwanted conversation" and was in close proximity of approximately 20 students while on campus.


Court date has been ser for Osterle on March 23 in Washington County Circuit Court.
