Former Miami, Sand Springs teacher arrested for soliciting sexual conduct and sexual battery

Kanyen Derris Cole, a 29-year-old resident of Owasso and former teacher at Miami Public Schools, was arrested in Ottawa Count Thursday afternoon.

Cole was booked into the Ottawa County Jail facing three counts of soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology and one count of sexual battery.

Cole’s arrest follows an investigation into inappropriate interactions with minors. Authorities have not released specific details about the case, but the charges indicate the use of digital platforms to target victims. Cole, remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance.

Before his arrest, Cole worked as a coach and teacher at Miami Public Schools in Miami from August 2022 to May 2023.

His teaching career also included a stint at Sand Springs Public Schools, where he taught at Charles Page High School from August 2018 to May 2022, and a brief period at Salina Public Schools starting in August 2023, where his contract was terminated weeks later.
