Felon headed back to prison on drug, firearm violation charges



A Fort Smith felon with a history of drug convictions is headed back to prison after a plea agreement on Thursday in Sebastian County Circuit Court on felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons charges stemming from arrests this past December and January.


Matthew J. Cogburn was senetenced on two Class D felonies and given five years plus ten years on both counts with a four year habitual offender enhancement. The plea bargain also resulted in the dropping of felony petition to revoke charges against Cogburn.


Since 2011, Cogburn has been arrested and convicted for Maintainining a Drug Premises, Possession of Controlled Subatances, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possessionn of Meth or Cocaine with Intent to Deliver. He has drawn 72 months of imposed senetences and three times that number of months in suspended sentences.
