Felon draws a year in jail for being a felon in possesion of a firearm

A 43-year-old Fort Smith with a long rap sheet out of Garland County was sentenced to a year in jail Wednesday after a negotiated plea of guilty in Sebastian County Circuit Court.


Billy Gene Edmonds, who has been out on bail since an arrest last week on Possession of Forearms by Certain Persons in April of 2020, avoided a habitual offender designation. In addition to the ine year imposed sentence, ,


Edmonds was also given five years suspended. The court session also addressed a Contempt of Court charge from last week.


Edmonds had to agree to surrender the firearm and will be foreced to pay fines and fees on a monthly payment schedule beginning 90 days after his release.


The arrests from Garland County, dating back to 2003, included theft, harrasment, and drug related charges.
