Failure to negotiate curve on State Highway 43 proves fatal to Harrison motorcyclist

A Newton County motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon when he ran his bike off the side of the road in a rural area along a stretch of State Highway 43, according to the Arkansas State Police.


A preliminary fatal crash summary o]posted by the Arkansas Department of Public Safety Friday morning details the accident which happened in the Compton community.


The accident, which occurred southwest of Harrison at 1:30 p.m. saw 43-year-old Michael James Drewry of Harrison fail to negotiate a left-hand curve in the southbound lane of the highway.


The 2011 Yamaha he was driving exited the roadway on the west side and struck a guardrail. Drewry was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to a local funeral home.


Cpl Jason Hutcheson of Troop I of the Arkansas State Police noted partly cloudy weather conditions and dry roadways at the time of the deadly crash.
