Early morning accident on I40 in Faulkner County claims 26-year-old Fort Smith man

A 26-year-old Fort Smith man was killed and 24-year-old resident of Vilonia was injured in an early Sunday morning accident in the westbound lane of I40 near mile-marker 129 in Faulkner County.

Officials with the Arkansas State police released a preliminary report within the past sixteen hours detailing the accident, which occurred at 2;:21 am and involved a 2013 Chrysler 300 and a 2011 Ford F-150 pick-up truck.

According to the ASP, Gabriel Micah Satterfield was outside his Chrysler in the outside lane of the interstate due to a previous accident when he tried to re-enter his vehicle. Satterfield was struck by the Ford, and the driver's reaction caused the vehicle to roll over several times before coming to rest in the inside lane.

The Chrysler was knocked off the roadway and came to rest along the tree line on the right side of the roadway. Sattterfield died at the scene and an occupant in the Ford, Cole C. Flowers, 24, of Vilonia was transported to Baptist Conway for treatment of injuries.

The report did not note if Flowers was the driver or a passenger in the pick-up.

Corporal Jerry Oglesby worked the accident or the Arkansas State Police and noted conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of impact.

Satterfield's death was the 400th Arkansas roadway fatality of the year.
