A 40-year-old Lavaca woman who had been out on bail since her February arrest on various drug charges saw her freedom come to an end on Wednesday when a plea deal in Sebastian County Circuit Court bought her a 15-year prison sentence with an additional 20 years suspended

Deborah Jean Penix, whose address listed in the court is in the 7200 block of Military Road in Lavaca, learned her fate following the court session Wednesday morning in Sebastian County. Penix was sentenced after an early 2023 arrest for possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

That arrest also triggered a parole violation from a previous arrest in 2019. She had previously been sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Corrections in September of 2019 on possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia charges.

Penix was also given credit for the one day she served in jail after her 2023 arrest. She will be required to give the court a DNA sample and saw her petition to revoke count withdrawn based on her plea. She was also notified of forfeiture of all properties tied in with her conviction.

She remains into custody of the Sebastian County Adult detention Center awaiting her pending transfer to the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
