Driver of stolen vehicle killed in crash while fleeing law enforcement in Washington County

The Arkansas State Police in northwest Arkansas are reporting an  accident that occurred on Christmas Day in Springdale that took the life of a 20-year-old Washington County resident who was fleeing from police.

According to information released by the Arkansas State Police through the Arkansas Department of Public Safety website, Wilmer Jubel of Springdale was driving a stolen 2018 Dodge Ram eastbound on Emma Avenue and was fleeing an attempted traffic stop at a high rate of speed.

The truck crossed over Huntsville Road onto East Emma Avenue and failed to negotiate a curve as he was headed towards Butterfield Coach Road.

The truck left the roadway and struck a culvert on a private drive and went airborne. The Dodge then struck a tree line and Jubel was ejected through the windshield.

Jubel was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to the Washington County Coroner's office.

Officer Patrick Olcott of the Springdale Police Department worked the accident and said the weather conditions were rainy and cloudy and the roadway was wet at the time of the impact.

Jubell's death was the 557th fatality for the year on Arkansas roads and highways.
