Covid-19 scare puts mask on 202 Miss Arkansas Scholarship competition
The 2020 Miss Arkansas Competition has been cancelled amid safety concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
The organization made the announcement Friday saying the 2020 state pageant will be postponed until the fall of 2021. This came on the heels of the Miss America organization cancelling their 2020 national competition.
“With the Miss America Organization making the announcement today that there would not be a national competition in 2020, and that they would be moving to the Fall of 2021, and with the state our nation is currently in, we felt like the right thing to do for all involved was to postpone our 2020 competition as well,” said Executive Director Jessie Bennett in a press release.
Candidates will be giving the coutesy of retaining their local title and competing June 13-19, 2021 for Miss Arkansas or Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen. Since most local competitions will be cancelled this year, there will be no new candidates involved.
Darynne Dahlem, Miss Arkansas 2019, and Sarah Cate Lay, Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen 2019, will both reatin their titles until new winners are crowned next year.
The Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation announced on Friday that each Miss Arkansas candidate will receive a $1,000 scholarship and each teen candidate will receive a $500 scholarship.
