The Pocola Lady Indians caught a free pass all the way to the finals of the Pick and Shovel Tournament in Hartshorne this Saturday after their potential second round opponent was forced to drop out of the event due to a positive Covid -19 test from one of the participants in a first round game.
In accordance with OSDH protocols, the Wilburton and Tishomingo girls basketball teams — the two teams effected by the positive case — will be pulling out of the tournament. Those teams played against each other in the first round of the event on Tuesday.
"We have been notified that a participant in the Pick & Shovel Tournament on Tuesday night has tested positive,” a post on the Hartshorne Public Schools website said on Wednesday. . "Disinfecting protocols are being followed and the OSDH will perform contact tracing. Specific procedures established by the OSDH will be followed.””
The Lady Indians now advance to the championship game of the week-long event and will face the winner of a Thursday night contest between Hartshorne and Oktaha. The Pocola boys take on Clayton in a 5:50 p.m. tip-off on Friday in the consolation bracket.
