A Fort Smith man with a couple of drug-related arrest dating back to 2022 will spend at least the better part of the next two decades in the Arkansas Department of Corrections after sentencing Wednesday in Sebastian County Circuit Court.

Orlando Salas, whose address was listed in the booking information with the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center after his court date this week was in the 2100 block of North 52nd Street, took a plea deal after being charged with two counts of treafficking fentanyl and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Salas, who was arrested on February14 of this year, was sentenced to 32 years in the ADC with an additional 18 years suspended.  That arrest also triggered a felony petition to revoke for previous crimes committed by the 20-year-old.

After his initial arrest, Salas was released on a $50,000 Bond on March 6 approximately three weeks after his arrest.

According to information from the arrest affidavit, a confidential informant working in conjunction with the Fort Smith Narcotics Unit  was able to take officers to a third party who, through an unknown female, made contact with the suspect and secured an amount of fentanyl pills in excess of one gram.

A traffic will stop was then conducted on silas's vehicle, which wielded the controlled buy money from the FSPD as well as other narcotics.

In addition to the three-decades-plus imposed sentence, Salas saw an additional 18 years suspended on the charges.

Salas had a previous conviction from 2022 for possession of a controlled substance with pur pose to deliver.

As of Friday morning, Salas remained in the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center awaiting transfer to the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
