Scott Kevin Jared, a 38-year-old man from Perry County, disappeared on August 4, 2006, amid personal struggles, including job loss and home foreclosure.
Standing between 5'11" and 6'0" tall, weighing 165-185 pounds, he had short brown hair, brown eyes, a mustache, and a goatee. When last seen, he wore light blue stone-washed jean shorts, a dark blue t-shirt, Reebok tennis shoes, and a necklace with a cross.
His wife, Pamela, initially claimed they visited Thornburg Cemetery, where she briefly left to buy drinks and returned to find him gone. She later admitted the last sighting was the previous evening, August 3, at a friend’s mobile home on Trail 86, after the group used methamphetamine.
Pamela reported him missing on August 6, triggering a search across a 50-mile radius of the remote area, but no trace of Jared was found. She later expressed regret for withholding details about their drug use, feeling investigators treated her more like a suspect than a concerned spouse.
That morning, a county ranger encountered a man matching Jared’s description near Trail 86 on a hot day. The man, appearing talkative and possibly high on meth, requested water, spoke about exploring the area, and then wandered off.
That evening, a woman in nearby Perryville reported seeing a similar man on a bridge, talking to someone in a white Corvette that drove away without him. About two weeks later, an acquaintance claimed to have seen Jared at a crack house in west Little Rock, but this lead went nowhere.
Jared’s case remains unsolved, with no recent developments reported by Arkansas State Police. Authorities speculate he may have left voluntarily due to his substance issues, but his family sees him as more than his struggles--a son, brother, husband, and father. They still hope for answers.
Anyone with information should contact the Perry County Sheriff’s Department at (501) 889-2333 or Arkansas State Police at (479) 968-2558.
Now 57, Jared’s fate--—whether alive, deceased, or somewhere in between--remains a mystery in this rural Arkansas cold case.
