James Curt “Kirt” Peavy, vanished under mysterious circumstances on August 6, 2016, in Broken Bow inMcCurtain County. . Now 59 years old, Kirt was 50 at the time of his disappearance, and authorities remain hopeful that new tips could shed light on this nearly decade-old case.

Kirt was last seen at approximately 9:30 p.m. on August 6, 2016, at the residence of his ex-wife’s parents in Broken Bow . According to police reports, Kirt’s 19-year-old son was the last family member to see him, and Kirt was on foot, carrying only his iPhone, wallet, and a payroll check.

His wallet contained an Oklahoma ID card, and he was dressed casually in brown khaki shorts (size 34), a large red t-shirt, a black ball cap with a YETI logo, and size 9–9.5 flip-flops.

Investigators note that Kirt’s disappearance is particularly puzzling due to the lack of activity following his last known sighting. His cell phone and credit card have shown no usage since that night, and two payroll checks--one in his possession--remain uncashed.

Phone records obtained by the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office reveal Kirt made calls to his 16-year-old daughter at 8:34 p.m. and 9:03 p.m. on August 6. The final activity on his phone was an incoming call from a blocked number at 9:19 p.m., lasting three minutes.

Authorities have been unable to trace the caller, and this remains a critical lead in the investigation.

Kirt is described as a White male, approximately 5’10” to 5’11” tall, weighing 210–220 pounds at the time of his disappearance. He has blonde, partially gray hair with a receding hairline, minimal body hair, and light steel blue to green eyes that shift with his clothing.

Distinctive features include a full set of dentures with a chipped right front tooth, a small “skull with hat” tattoo on his right arm, and a “Yosemite Sam” tattoo on his chest. He was also known to have a mustache.

The case was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs #MP35672) on August 31, 2016, but no significant updates have been publicly reported in recent years.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has assisted local authorities, and the investigation remains active.

Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen Kirt in the vicinity of Broken Bow on the evening of August 6, 2016, or who has knowledge of the blocked call he received.

Kirt’s family, including his now-adult children, continue to seek closure.

“He was a loving dad who wouldn’t just walk away without a word,” said a family spokesperson in a 2017 appeal that remains relevant today.

The family has provided two cell phone numbers associated with Kirt--580-306-4490 and 580-579-4272--in hopes of generating leads.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Broken Bow Police Department at 580-584-3310 or the OSBI at 800-522-8017. T
