iIn the dense pine forests of McCurtain County, James Curt Peavy simply vanished on a warm summer evening in 2016.
Known affectionately as Kirt to family and friends, the 50-year-old man had been rebuilding his life after overcoming past struggles with addiction. Clean for three years, he was working and maintaining close ties with his children. On August 6, he spent time at the home of his ex-wife's parents.
Around 9:30 that night, witnesses saw him walking away on foot along Ogden Road. He carried only his iPhone, wallet, and an uncashed payroll check. He had no vehicle with him and no plans to disappear.

Earlier that evening, Kirt had spoken by phone with his 16-year-old daughter at 8:34 and again at 9:03. Those calls would be his last outgoing communications. At 9:19, he answered a call from a blocked number that lasted about three minutes. After that brief conversation, his phone went silent.
.No further activity registered on his credit cards or other accounts. The payroll checks, including the one he had been carrying, were never cashed. Kirt had seemingly stepped into the night and dissolved without a trace.
Standing approximately five feet ten inches tall and weighing around 210 pounds, Kirt had light brown hair that was partially gray with a receding hairline, a mustache, and green eyes that could appear light steel blue depending on the light.

He wore a full set of dentures with a chipped right front tooth. Visible tattoos included a small skull wearing a hat on his right arm and a Yosemite Sam figure on his chest. On the night he disappeared, he was dressed in brown khaki shorts with a 34-inch waist, a large red T-shirt, a black ball cap featuring the YETI logo, and size nine to nine-and- a- half flip-flops.
Family members describe Kirt as a devoted father who had called his children that evening, maintaining the bonds that mattered most to him. His sudden absence left a profound void.

pite extensive searches and investigations by the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office, no solid leads have emerged to explain what happened after he walked away from that family home. The circumstances surrounding the blocked phone call and his immediate disappearance raise questions that remain unanswered more than nine years later.
Authorities continue to treat the case as an active missing persons investigation, with the possibility of foul play not ruled out. Kirt had turned his life around, and those who knew him find it difficult to believe he would voluntarily abandon his family and responsibilities. His loved ones hold onto hope that someone, somewhere, holds the key to bringing him home or providing closure.

The dense woodlands and rural roads around Broken Bow can conceal secrets for years, but the family refuses to let this cold case fade into obscurity.
