In the quiet community of Jay in Delaware County, where everyone knows each other's name, the sudden disappearance of twenty-nine-year-old Misty Dawn Faulkner has left a lingering void and a host of unanswered questions.
Misty's last known interactions, filled with the everyday ordinariness of life, make the mystery of her vanishing all the more perplexing.
On January 14, 2011, Misty called her grandmother, a routine check-in after her workday, mentioning her plans to stop at Wal-Mart for groceries. Surveillance footage later confirmed that she did indeed visit the store, seemingly fulfilling her usual shopping trip.
What followed is a baffling sequence of events that has since haunted her family and the local community.
That evening, around 7:30 pm, Misty's grandparents reported hearing a vehicle pull up to their house. They expected Misty to come through the door any minute. Her car was found parked outside, with her wallet, cell phone, and newly purchased groceries untouched inside. Yet, Misty herself was nowhere to be found.
Despite thorough searches and ongoing investigations, no one has seen or heard from her since that night.
Misty was last seen wearing a black Steve and Barry's hooded sweatshirt, a black sweater, new blue jeans, and size 8 or 8.5 brown boots. Misty is described as a Caucasian female with brown hair and hazel eyes, her ears pierced once.
She has a one- to two-inch scar on her knee and several distinctive tattoos: a dolphin on her right lower leg, a dragon's head surrounded by blue sky on her lower back, and the names "JC", "Andrew" and "Sonny" on her left upper arm and shoulders.
Faulkner was last seen in Eucha, Oklahoma, as she made her way back home to Jay. Her routine grocery trip turned into a nightmare scenario when her grandparents heard her car pull into the driveway and saw her sitting inside, talking on her phone.
An hour later, when she still hadn't come back inside, her grandfather went out to check on her, only to find her gone. Her car remained in the front yard, untouched, with her wallet, cellular phone, and the purchased groceries still inside.
Misty's disappearance is out of character for her, and her loved ones insist she would never have left without warning, especially her children. The Delaware County Sheriff's Office continues to seek any leads that might shed light on Misty's fate.
