Cold Case Files: Disappearance of Stillwell man in 1999 remains an unsolved case for OSBI officials

Writer: Dennis McCaslinDennis McCaslin

Dennis Wayne Morrison was last seen in Stilwell, a small town in Cherokee County known for its strawberry festival and close-knit community.

On September 5, 1999, Dennis, then-aged 53, vanished without a trace. His distinctive appearance, due to a previous shotgun wound that left part of his right jaw missing and wired, with shotgun pellets still in his head, made him easily recognizable.

Despite extensive searches, no clues or witnesses have been identified, and the case remains unsolved, with limited media coverage at the time.

Dennis was a Native American man, standing between 5’10 and 5’11, weighing 150-155 lbs, with grey hair and brown eyes. His injury from hs previous shotgun wound earned him the unfortunate nickname "Halfhead," a detail that should have made him easily recognizable in the community.

The circumstances of his disappearance are described as a mystery, with no known articles or media coverage from 1999, as noted by Oklahoma Cold Cases. There are no recorded witnesses or leads, and the lack of information has made it challenging for investigators and his family to understand what occurred.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) still has the scase file, and continues to seek public assistance, contactable at 1-800-522-8017 or via email at tips@osbi.ok.gov.
