Carroll County encounter between motorcycle and Jeep proves deadly to Carl Junction, Mo. man


The Arkansas State Police says a 46-year-old Carl Junction, Missouri man died Thursday as a result of an accident involving the motorcycle he was riding and a 2014 Jeep in Carroll County.

According to the information posted on the Department of Public Safety website, the ASP preliminary investigation into the accident says that Dennis Gacus was northbound on Highway 23 in Eureka Springs when he started negotiating a left-hand turn onto County Road 102.

The Jeep was southbound on Highway 23 and was negotiating a left hand curve at a high rate of speed and the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Jeep as it was turning. After impact Gacus was thrown from the motorcycle and landed just off the east side of the highway. The motorcycle traveled further off the east side of the highway before coming to a final rest.


Gacus was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner's office.


Sergeant Chad D. Hipps of the Arkansas State Police worked the accident and noted weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident, which occurred at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Gacus' death was the 208th of the year resulting from 188 vehicular accidents across the state.
