BROKEN BOW, Okla. – A devastating single-vehicle crash in McCurtain County has claimed the life of 18-year-old Korey Nnokam, a cherished student-athlete from Broken Bow High School, just days before he was set to graduate.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), the crash took place shortly after 2:05 a.m. Saturday on 1484 Cow Crossing Road, approximately 15 miles north of Haworth in southeastern Oklahoma.

Three teens were traveling north in a Ford pickup truck when the vehicle veered off the pavement, rolled several times, and ejected all occupants. OHP identified Korey Nnokam as the passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 18-year-old driver, Brason Watson, and a 19-year-old passenger, Jacob Routh, both of Broken Bow, were transported to McCurtain Memorial Hospital. Their conditions have not been disclosed.

Troopers have attributed the cause of the crash to unsafe speed and noted that none of the teens were wearing seat belts, a factor that likely contributed to the severity of the incident.

The OHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Broken Bow Public Schools, where Nnokam was a senior and a standout member of the Class of 2025, shared their grief in a heartfelt social media post.

“Korey Nnokam was a beloved student-athlete at BBHS,” the statement read. “His spirit and presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Our deepest and most sincere sympathy goes out to his family, friends, and to our entire Savage Family during this difficult time.”

Nnokam was set to walk across the graduation stage on Saturday, May 17.
