Breaking News: Arrest made in June homicide in Fayetteville residence



The Fayetteville Police Department made an arrest Tuesday in a June homicide that has been under investigation since the discovery of a body in a Fayetteville home.
On June 24, 2020, Fayetteville Patrol Officers responded to 296 N. Platinum Drive for a report of a deceased male. Detectives responded to the scene and quickly determined the death was the result of a homicide. Federico McDaniel was identified as the victim.
After a thorough, 15-month investigation, Fayetteville Detectives presented Washington County Prosecutor Matthew Durrett with a Capital Murder affidavit, requesting an arrest warrant for Tequan Smith of Hughes.
Prosecutor Durrett signed the affidavit, and he issued a Capital Murder Arrest Warrant.
On September 28, 2021, deputies at the St. Francis County Jail served the Capital Murder warrant on Tequan Smith in connection with the murder of Federico McDaniel that occurred on June 24, 2020 near 296 N. Platinum Drive in Fayetteville.
In addition to the murder charge, Smith is on a no bond hold at the St. Francis County Detention Center for Conspiracy to Commit Capital Murder, Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property, Third Degree Escape, Criminal Mischief, and Endangering the Welfare of a Chold charges.
The Fayetteville Police Department’s investigation is ongoing.
