Bond set at $50,000 for Fort Smith eighteen-year-old in Tuesday hit-and-run fatality

The Fort Smith man who fled the scene after a deadly accident on Tuesday turned himself into the police on Wednesday and is now facing a felony charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident/Causes Injury.


Dyllon Smith, 18, was booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center

and charged with the Class D felony pending further investigation.


The Class D felony came into play after an accident on Monday that claimed the life of 64-year-old William Eugene Kyer Jr. at the intersection of Jenny Lind Road and South R. Street.


No records of previous traffic violations can be found for Smith on Arkansas Court Connect.


According to the accident report from the Fort Smith Police Department, Kyzer was westbound on Jenny Lind in a 2009 Nissan when he was clipped in the left rear quarter panel by a 2--3 Chevrolet truck driven by Smith.


The Nissan overturned and Kyzer was trapped in the vehicle.


Smith fled the scene ad was the subject of a BOLO by the Fort Smith police until he turned himself in on Tuesday. According to one source, the charges could be changed and/or expanded once the investigation is complete.
